TRADITIONAL DORM

As suggested by the name, these are the most simple, traditional dorms to be found here on campus. They are the most economical dorms on campus at a total year cost of about $11,000 (about $550 per semester). The buildings which house these dorms include Blanding (I,II,III,IV) and Kirwan (I,II,III,IV). However due to their great age and slow deterioration throughout the years, only 2 of these 8 dorms will be available during the 2016-2017 school year. These dorms are located on south campus near the 90 complex, Willy T. Library and the Johnson Center. Also the dorms located closest to K-lot (Commonwealth Stadium). The students who would want to consider residing in these dorms would be those on a tight budget. One can assume, being the most economical, these dorms provide simply the basic necessities. The rooms consist of two beds, two desks/chairs and two small closets/vanity stations. A student can request a single dorm room to themselves, however there will be an extra cost. These dormitories consist of 3 levels and are co-ed. Each dorm floor contains one large community restroom. This community restroom consists of 5 restroom stalls, 10 sinks, and 5 showers (at least 1 handicap). Also located on each floor, are 2 small living areas, one to each side of the floor. Now, the basement consists of a variety of things. Firstly, they provide a kitchen area. This kitchen contains a sink, an oven, a microwave/microwave oven, a refrigerator and a freezer, Along with a few dining tables. Secondly, is the washer/dryer room. This room contains on average 5 washers and 5 dryers, as well as an ice machine. It costs $1.25 per wash and per dry. Room also provides seating and dry racks for special clothing items. Thirdly, is the tv room. This room simply contains a cable TV and various seating areas. Adjoined to this room, is the game room. This room contains a ping-pong table, a pool table and a piano. Finally, the dorm provides a study room, Now, for the dorm as a whole, as I stated before is co-ed. These dorms also do not provide elevators as they are only 3 stories. These dorms are also closed during breaks (Thanksgiving, Christmas). If students were to be staying on campus during breaks, they would have to be moved to temporary dorm during that time. So, overall a very simple and economical dorm. If you are a person who is very easy going, non-claustrophobic and does not mind sharing, then these dorms would seem to work for you. Overall, the basic note of these dorms is that they are most economical. So, if you are trying to save money and are not overly private, then these dorms would work for you!
